Got my own Far Side comic. When your hit play, the buffer are filled up to the predefined size (or dynamically defined by the system) and when it’s full, the player starts showing the content. One assumes a need to repeat the past and the other assumes a need in the future. I generally use FLAC for lossless compression though.
