After extraction, I browsed to the directory where the files extracted to, and ran the SetupSP6.exe application. I wasn't quite sure what "xperf" was and it wasn't originally working in my command prompt. hahathanks so much for this, I was able to install vb6 on my windows 7 machine and now I can run all my vb applications! Anybody else do something like this?

The word is to install MSDE in an XP virtual PC. And do you know if the updated screen look work backwards to client who are still using XP.. You can turn it off in the control panel. any help is greatly appreciated.

Following your advice I got VB6 installed with no problem on my new i7 64-bit Windows machine. What MDAC is installed, and what is referenced by your project? Wait until the computer has gone through a period of stuttering slowness, and then type out the next line and press Enter (this line may take several seconds to process): xperf

Doesn't matter if it is a low bit-rate MP3 or a huge MKV HD file. When I click the "Start the Program" button in the compatibility dialog, the wait cursor spins for about a second and then just quits.This is way beyond your call of duty, I am using my XP partition (I upgraded to W7) until I have the time to reformat my hard drive with W7 and install software slowly to see if I can Patrick and x BlueRobot say thanks for this.
